The Client

The Bicycle Commuter Coalition of the Inland Empire (BCCIE) is a grass roots organization dedicated to promoting cycling as an alternative to automotive transportation. The organization created a logo, registered a domain name and established a shell web presence, but had not found the time or resources to update and maintain it.

When they attended a local city council meeting and wanted to explain who they were and what they did, there was no place they could point to that said, "Go here to learn more about us." They asked us to change that. They needed a web presence that served as a calling card for bicycling commuting advocacy.

The Solution

We worked with the leadership at BCCIE to determine their mission, priorities for the website and key messages they wanted to convey. We visited the websites of numerous organizations around the world with similar missions and outlined how BCCIE could meet their goals. We pored over stock photos and photos from BCCIE members that demonstrated the fun and value of bike commuting. We found members with voluminous online photo albums, which we linked to.

Our intent was to make visitors feel like they were engaging with a group of people whose mission and activities were important to them, and to society at large. Currently in development is a blog of the BCCIE's president's upcoming bike tour from San Diego to Texas.
